For the last few decades, scientists have been preaching to us to wear sunscreen to look younger.
New studies show: they were wrong! And we were stunned. Here’s what we learned about the latest evidence regarding sun damage.
An SPF isn’t enough to protect you from sun damage. Yes, they block UVA and UVB rays, but those rays only account for 7% of solar energy.
Now for the really interesting part:
New research finds that infrared radiation, which makes up 54% of solar energy, also causes aging AND may be worse than UV rays!
It seems that infrared radiation penetrates deeper than UV rays, producing those nasty free radicals that not only age you but also wreck your skin.
Now What?
So do you give up sunscreen? No way! We’ve always told you how important an antioxidant serum is to your overall skin care.
Now science is backing us up. In fact, wearing an antioxidant serum that has a combination of vitamins C, E, and ferulic acid, a naturally occurring antioxidant and sunscreen, is more important than sunscreen!
This antioxidant cocktail provides the missing link in preventing free radicals from robbing your skin of health and youth.
Wear the antioxidant serum under your sunscreen. Just make sure your sunscreen contains zinc and titanium dioxide, not Avobenzone and Octinoxate, which promote wrinkles!
If you wear sunscreen with 30 SPF, are you getting twice the protection than sunscreen with SPF 15?
The answer may surprise you: no.
The general assumption is the higher the SPF, the more protection you have. But that’s not how it works. An SPF of 30 filters out about 97% of UVB rays; SPF 15 filters out 93%.
The number on the sunscreen indicates how long you can safely stay in the sun without burning based on your Maximum Erythema Dose. That’s a scientific way of saying you need to know how long it takes for your unprotected skin to turn pink.
If you’re fair, it may only take 10 minutes. Multiply that by the SPF and you have the number of safe sun minutes.
10 minutes x SPF 30=300 safe sun minutes
But there is a catch. Sunscreen wears off with wind, sweat, (even the “waterproof ones) and towel drying. That means your safe sun minutes get cut in half.
It’s best to re-apply every 2 hours. Don’t forget to wear a hat and lightweight clothing for added protection!
“I got a sunburn and I wore SPF 30 sunscreen. I don’t get it.”
That’s a frequent complaint from sun-loving clients that also want to protect their skin.
So what’s going on here? Did your SPF let you down? The problem is that SPF’s are greatly misunderstood. We expect a whole lot from this sun protector, but we aren’t willing to give much in return!
It all starts with this:
The SPF number indicates the amount of time you can stay in the sun without burning versus how long you could stay in the sun without sunscreen and without burning.
For example, an SPF 30 sunscreen allows you to stay outside 30 times longer than if you weren’t wearing sunscreen. But that’s only half of the truth!
What’s not commonly understood is the “Maximum Erythema Dose,” which simply means the point at which your skin flushes slightly pink while exposed to UV rays.
Obviously, it’s different for everyone. Very fair skinned people may start to pink up after 10 minutes in the sun. Darker skin complexions may take up to an hour.
Here’s a look at how the formula works for both skin types:
Fair Skin: SPF 30 x 10 minutes= 300 sun safe minutes
Darker Skin: SPF 30 x 60 minutes=900 sun safe minutes
The catch? Sweating, swimming, and rubbing off the sunscreen! For each of these, cut the sun protection factor in HALF.
Your sunscreen does work but you must re-apply frequently, preferably every 2 hours. Better yet, get out of the sun until tomorrow!

We all know how important it is to wear sunscreen. Without it, damaging UVA and UVB rays penetrate your skin, wrinkling it like the proverbial prune!
But new research published by Nadim Shaath, PhD has uncovered startling evidence. UVA and UVB rays only account for SEVEN PERCENT of all solar energy!
Seven percent…
So what’s causing the real skin damage? Infrared radiation A (IRA) is the major culprit, contributing an astonishing 54% of damaging solar energy. IRA causes not only premature aging, it can actually be more damaging than UV rays!
How?
Infrared rays produce free radicals that steal electrons from healthy cells, and that means damage with a capital D!
– Inflammation
– Pigmentation
– Even DNA damage

Here’s the drill. We know you know about sun damage, how it prematurely ages you, contributing to wrinkles, blackheads, sagging skin and milia.
It’s one thing to know it in your head it’s another to see what really happens when you neglect it. (We know you never would, so please pass this on to a wayward friend!)
That’s why we’re adding a little drama to the mix. Here’s a former truck driver of 28 years. He’s 69 years old. Take a look at the left side of his face. Now take a look at the right side.
Big difference, huh? The left side of his face got the worst of UV and infrared rays during his 28-year driving career. This extreme exposure caused his skin to thicken and the elastic fibers to be destroyed. Now he is at high risk for skin cancer!
Thankfully, none of you will ever experience such a dramatic wrinkling. Because you get facials, use our high quality skin care, and exercise caution with the sun, you will never have to go down this road.
But in case you’re running late one day and you’re thinking about skipping your antioxidant serum and sunscreen, just think of our truck-driving friend here.
